This outdoor activity is always a winner, the toddler gets to make pictures and learns about trees. I couldnβt drag my daughter away from the park the day we did bark rubbing.

What youβll need:
- Crayons (preferably chunky ones without paper round them)
- Paper
- An outdoor space with lots of trees!
What to do:
- Find a good tree
- Place the paper on the bark
- Use the long edge of the crayon and rub on the paper to get an imprint of the bark
- We also collected a leaf from the tree to help identify the tree using an online leaf identification sheet, like this one, when we got home.
Hints and tips
– The wider crayons gave better rubbings so I melted down some old crayons in the microwave then poured them into a plastic cup to make a circular crayon that worked really well
– Itβs worth taking some masking or duck tape and taping the paper to the tree so that you donβt have to stand there holding it
