Chocolate top hats πŸŽ©

A fun and tasty activity to make with your toddler, that doesn’t have too many ingredients and the only cooking involved is melting chocolate.

You’ll need:

  • Milk chocolate (1 bar)
  • Marshmallows (large, 1 packet)
  • Smarties (we couldn’t find any so used sprinkles instead)
  • Cupcake cases (smaller ones work better)
  • Saucepan and bowl

What to do:

  1. Break the chocolate into squares into a glass measuring jug or bowl (great for the toddler to do).
  2. Melt the chocolate over boiling water in a saucepan (better for grown ups to do).
  3. Once the squares have disappeared take the chocolate off the heat and give it a good stir.
  4. Carefully pour or spoon a little bit of chocolate so that it covers the bottom of each cupcake case.
  5. Place a marshmallow into the melted chocolate in each cupcake case.
  6. Add a tiny bit more melted chocolate on the top of each marshmallow.
  7. Add a smartie (or similar) to the melted chocolate on top of the marshmallow.

Hints and tips:

– Be careful with the melted chocolate as it’ll obviously be hot, but once it has cooled slightly you could let your toddler spoon in into the cupcake cases and on top of the marshmallows (closely supervised).

– We only had a few small cupcake cases left so used a mixture of large and small ones.

– Be careful not to overheat the chocolate or get any water in it. You can also melt chocolate directly in a saucepan or in the microwave but there is more chance of burning it those ways.
