If your lucky enough to have a stencil book you could use that or you can make your own stencil by cutting plastic. Either way you can make a flag to decorate your childβs pretend ships.

What youβll need:
- A piece of fabric (we used an old pillow case)
- A stick (we used a cocktail skewer)
- Paints (preferably acrylic) and brushes
- A stencil (see notes at bottom on how to make your own)
- Masking tape
What to do:
- Cut your fabric into a flag shape
- Place your stencil on the flag, secure with masking tape
- Dab the paint on the stencil making sure to hold your brush vertical
- Remove tape and stencil
- Leave to dry
- Attach stick by gluing the top end together (or even better stitching it)
Hints and tips:
– You could make your own stencil with a bit of plastic (i.e. an old fruit container or milk carton), simply draw the pattern then carefully cut out.
– Make sure thereβs not too much paint on your brush and you dab the brush vertically rather than painting it, as this prevents paint going under the stencil
– Practise on a piece of paper first before stencilling the fabric
