Hungry Caterpillar egg box πŸ›

This is a very popular caterpillar craft for a reason, it’s simple and lots of fun to do. We jazzed up our hungry caterpillar with some sequins. You could also combine this with reading the hungry caterpillar and finding some of the food in the story to feed your caterpillar.

You’ll need:

  • An empty egg box
  • Green and red paint plus brushes
  • A pipe cleaner
  • String/wool
  • Googley eyes
  • Sequins to decorate (optional)

What to do:

  1. Cut the egg box into individual parts, paint five of them green and one red, leave to dry.
  2. Once dry make a cross hole (knife works well for this) in the top of the red egg container.
  3. Cut the pipe cleaner in half and twist one end together.
  4. Push the twisted end through the hole in the red egg container and fold to keep in place. Twirl the other end to make antenna.
  5. Make a small hole in the front and back of four of the green egg holders. Make one hole in the back of the red holder and for the remaining green holder only make one hole in the front.
  6. Push a bit of string through all the holes to put the caterpillar together. Tie knots at either end to secure.
  7. Put googley eyes on the front of the red egg holder.
  8. Decorate the caterpillar with sequins if you’d like.

Hints and tips:

– You could use pens to colour the egg box if you don’t have paints.

– You could experiment with different ways of assembling the caterpillar, you could try elastic to make it bouncy or individual card loops.
