Insect hunt/colour sorting πŸ”

All children love treasure hunts, and if you have some toy insects then this is a really fun activity. Even if you don’t have toy insects you could make your own by cutting out insect shapes on cardboard and colouring them different colours. Just remember where you hid them or you’ll be finding spiders for a while after.

What you’ll need:

  • Toy insects (see above on how to make your own)
  • Coloured paper
  • A torch (optional)

What to do:

  1. Hide the insects around a room
  2. Set up coloured paper in the middle of the room
  3. You could make the room dark for an extra challenge
  4. Get your child to find the insects with/without a torch, when they find an insect they have to place it on the coloured paper corresponding to the colour of the insect.

Hints and tip:

– For older children you could stick numbers or letters on the back of the insects and get the child to put them in order when they find them
