Snail/slug slime 🐌

I’d been wanting to make slime with my daughter for ages and tying it in with learning about snails and slugs seemed perfect. The slime didn’t quite work out like I expected, but hopefully you can learn from my mistakes!

We stuck some googley eyes on some old slime to be the slug and made the green slime

What you’ll need:

  • PVA glue (100ml)
  • 1 tablespoon contact lens cleaning solution
  • 1/2 tablespoon baking powder
  • few drops food colouring
  • Glitter (optional)
  • Mixing bowl and spoon

What to do:

  1. Add the PVA glue to the bowl, mix in the baking powder then some food colouring (we mixed blue and yellow to get green)
  2. Add the contact lens solution and mix, initially it will be sticky but keep mixing until it forms a ball. Then take out of the bowl and knead with your hands.

Hints and tips:

– Our slime was very runny because we didn’t have enough contact lens solution, though after a few hours the glue dried out and we had good slime.

– You could add some shaving foam to make fluffier slime.

– Make sure the contact lens cleaning solution contains boric acid or it won’t activate the glue to make slime. Eye drops also contain boric acid so you could use them instead. The Americans use borax powder as an activator in slime but that’s not widely sold in Europe.

– The baking powder is just to thicken the glue, you could also use bicarbonate of soda.
