Recycling rocket πŸš€

We made a rocket for my daughter’s barbie using an empty coke bottle and some paper and card. It was really simple and she loved sending her barbies into space.

What you’ll need:

  • A large drinks bottle e.g. Diet Coke or similar
  • Coloured paper and card
  • Sellotape and scissors
  • Stickers and pens to decorate (optional)
  • A toy to go in the rocket (optional)

What to do:

  1. Cut off the top of the drinks bottle
  2. Put a toy in the rocket and cut a hole at their face height
  3. Cover the rocket in coloured paper, we went with orange. The easiest way to do this is to roll the paper around the bottle then use double sided tape to secure the edges, top and bottom.
  4. To make the nose cone, roll the card into a cone and place on top of the bottle, secure the edge with tape and mark the bottom edge of the cone so that it will be slightly bigger than the bottle. Cut off the extra card below this line.
  5. To make the fins draw 2 fin shapes on a piece of card, leavening an extra tab at the top. Cut out, fold back the tab and use to stick to the sides of the rocket with tape.
  6. Decorate the rocket as desired
  7. Put the toy in the rocket and place the cone on top (we used a little double sided tape to secure the cone on)

Check the barbie fits, cover in paper, then decorate

Hints and tip:

– if using a barbie we found the very bendy ones fit the best

– we had problems securing the cone on the top for lift off but also allowing the toys to be removed and swapped. Double sided tape worked ok but a better solution could perhaps be found.
